One week prior rules:

  • Avoid blood-thinning over-the-counter medications such as aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and Aleve. When taking too much of these kinds of drugs your lips may stay swollen for months.

  • Avoid supplements, including St. John’s Wort, Ginkgo Biloba, primrose oil, garlic, ginseng, and Vitamin E.

2 days prior to injection

  • Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinol, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, or any “anti-aging” products. Over usage of such products on the lip can cause unnecessary trouble while doing lip injection.

  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or using hair removal cream on the area to be treated. Any sort of redness is not acceptable before the filers go in. it is for your safety only.

  • Do not have Arnica to ease any pain.

24 hours prior to injection

Do not drink alcohol or smoke 24 hours before taking the lip injection. Obviously, you can ignore this point if you want a terrible headache the next morning with a very painful and sore lip. The choice is completely yours to make.

Now it is time to talk about the lip injection aftercare.

Do’s and don'ts after lip injection.

So now the real deal begins. You have a really sore lip and it stings, to be honest. But if you take a proper lip injection aftercare then the swelling will come down very easily. Lip injections, in the general, do not harm the lips since the filler used (hyaluronic acid) is a naturally occurring acid that is slowly absorbed by the body. Any injury to the lips is typically the result of inadequate technique on the part of the individual performing the injections. This sort of issue can be identified by swellings, lumps, and bumps around the lips. To avoid this sort of issue, a dentist is most equipped to provide lip filler injections since they are well-versed in the structure of the lips. But still, you need to be careful of a few things. Such as:

  • After fillers, rub ice to your lips with an ice pack or an ice cube wrapped in a towel (so it doesn't adhere to your lip and create discomfort). This will assist to relieve swelling, itching, bruising, and any other pain.

  • For 48 hours following treatment, avoid extreme temperatures such as steam rooms, saunas, or hot fitness classes. Swelling can be exacerbated by high temperatures.

  • If you are getting lip fillers for a particular incident, make sure to provide enough time between both the treatment and the event for your lips to completely heal.

  • After the treatment, your lips will most likely be puffy. It is also common to observe some redness or bruising at the injection sites. The majority of adverse effects will be mild, and you will be able to resume most activities after the treatment.

  • Keep hydrated. Drinking lots of water helps aid your body's healing process. Consume lots of hydrating fruits and vegetables and avoid excessive salt, which may aggravate edema.

  • This is a must. Never put any makeup product on that swollen area for at least 2weeks, or until your doctor says so. The chemicals in lipstick and foundation can aggravate the swelling making it a whole worse. So stay away from them

These all instructions may sound a little overwhelming for a person but the truth is these instructions are for your own good. Your doctor can tell you more about what to do after lip injection, or as they put it lip injection aftercare. So go see your doctor right now
